HB 109

LC0466
Mary Ann Dunwell (D) HD 84
Revise statute of limitations for sex offenses

Comments

  1. RVS asks Missoula County to support this bill. It can take many years for a person who was sexual assaulted or abused as a minor to report the crime that they experienced for multiple reasons. This includes threats, psychological abuse, fear of not being believed and supported. The reporting of these crimes should not be held to a timeline as there is no standard way that victims respond to these crimes. Victims should be able to seek justice when they are in a safe and stable place in their healing and recovery.

    Representatives Keogh and Morigeau,

Missoula County supports HB 109, Revise statute of limitations for sex offenses, up for hearing tomorrow morning in the Judiciary Committee. For multiple reasons, it can take many years for a person who was sexually assaulted or abused as a minor to report the crime. These reasons include threats, psychological abuse, and fear of not being believed or supported. The reporting of these crimes should not be held to a timeline, as there is no standard way victims respond to them. Victims should be able to seek justice when they are in a safe and stable place in their healing and recovery.

    Please support HB 109.
