Missoula County supports HB 219, Establish Indigenous Peoples’ Day in Montana, before House State Administration tomorrow morning. Missoula County has already renamed the Columbus Day holiday in October to Indigenous Peoples’ Day through a proclamation and would be proud to celebrate a state-recognized holiday in honor of our indigenous friends and neighbors. The seat of Missoula County government sits on Salish aboriginal territory, and HB 219 provides an opportunity for us to celebrate and remember that.
