Revising laws concerning human trafficking and sex crimes to protect victims

    Senators Sands and Bennett,

Missoula County supports SB 147, Revising laws concerning human trafficking and sex crimes to protect victims, up for hearing in the Judiciary Committee tomorrow morning. Human trafficking is a growing issue facilitated by the digital age, and Montana is experiencing a rise in both local and traveling trafficking. In the past, victims of trafficking were often the ones arrested, while traffickers and purchasers were not held accountable in meaningful ways that would deter future offenders. This does not address the root of the crime, and leaves the victims more vulnerable to future trafficking. Holding both the offender and the purchaser accountable is critical to addressing this issue.

    Please support SB 147.
