Representatives Malek and Barrett, Missoula County supports SB 188: Revise electricity supply resource planning and acquisition, up for hearing today in the Senate Energy and Telecommunications Committee. The bill would require investor-owned utilities (NorthWestern Energy and Montana-Dakota Utilities) to maintain a broad-based advisory committee to advise the utility on technical, economic, environmental, and policy issues related to the utility’s electricity system. Advisory committee meetings would be open to the public. It would also require utilities to conduct an open competitive solicitation process for new electric generating resources. This bill would increase transparency and give utility customers including Missoula County more opportunity to participate in the utility’s planning process.
