Representatives Malek and Barrett, Missoula County supports SB 190: Establish targets, reporting, and monitoring for CO2 emissions, up for hearing today in the Senate Energy and Telecommunications Committee. The bill would require the state to develop a plan to reduce carbon emissions 25% by 2022, 50% by 2030, and 100% by 2050 (from a 2010 baseline), and to establish a monitoring and reporting program focused on large emission sources such as power plants and refineries. Missoula County recognizes the urgency of climate change, and has a goal to reduce our contribution to climate change. This bill would advance that goal by shifting Montana’s electricity supply – including the electricity used in Missoula County – to cleaner, less-polluting sources.
