    Senators Sands and Bennett,

Missoula County supports SB 65, Generally revise drug and alcohol laws, before Senate Judiciary on Tuesday morning. SB 65 updates and clarifies the laws related to driving under the influence (DUI) in the state of Montana. SB 65 enhances the flexibility provided to judges in determining the most effective method for monitoring the use and abuse of alcohol by defendants. In addition, SB 65 eliminates the limited look-back period for DUI convictions, allowing the courts a more complete picture of the defendant’s history and potential needs for services. SB 65 provides for enhanced sentencing when a defendant is before the court on the fifth or subsequent DUI, helping to address the safety needs of communities. Missoula County consistently lands in the top three counties in the state for crashes involving impaired drivers, and the measures in this bill would help our courts rectify this.

    Please support SB 65.
