Generally revise supplemental assistance program laws

    Representatives Dudik, Hopkins and Ryan,

Missoula County supports HB 400, Generally revise supplemental assistance program laws, up for hearing this afternoon in House Appropriations. One in eight Montanans, including one in six children, struggles to afford all the food they need. Healthy foods, such as whole fruits and vegetables, are often more expensive than processed foods, making healthy eating further out of reach for many families. This bill would increase access to healthy food, which can prevent chronic disease and sickness, strengthening our workforce, Montana farms, and small local businesses where Double SNAP is redeemed. Investing in the Double SNAP program would provide stability to the program and allow it to grow in new communities, as well as open the door to leveraging federal funds for nutrition incentives.

Please support HB 400. Representative Dudik, thank you for sponsoring this bill.
