Dave Fern (D) HD 5
Revise criminal procedure laws related to sexual offenses

    Representatives Keogh and Morigeau,

Missoula County supports HB 590: Revise criminal procedure laws related to sexual offenses, up for hearing tomorrow morning in the Judiciary Committee. Children who have been sexually assaulted are traumatized by the event itself, and then they and their families are often re-traumatized by the criminal proceedings process. Meeting with defense attorneys can be particularly stressful and harmful to their mental health. Being able to opt out of defense interviews is a victim-centered approach that helps make the proceedings more humane for those impacted by these crimes.

    Please support HB 590.
