HB 653

Willis Curdy (D) HD 98
Revise clean indoor air act to include vaping

Comments

  1. Sent the afternoon of March 26:

    Representatives Sullivan, Olsen, and Curdy,

Missoula County supports HB 653: Revise clean indoor air act to include vaping, up for hearing in the House Business and Labor Committee tomorrow morning. This bill adds vaping to the protections of the Montana Clean Indoor Air Act. E-cigarette aerosol is not harmless water vapor; it contains nicotine, ultrafine particles, volatile organic compounds, cancer-causing compounds and heavy metals such as nickel, tin and lead that can affect both the smoker and bystanders. Defective e-cigarette batteries have caused fires and explosions, some of which have resulted in serious injuries. In addition, young people who use e-cigarettes are likely to smoke cigarettes in the future.

The county supports the Department of Public Health and Human Services recommendation that the bill be modified to expand the definition of tobacco product, rather than including a separate definition of electronic smoking device. The Association of Public Health Officials, the Montana Environmental Health Association and the Montana Public Health Association support this bill, especially if amended as requested by the Department of Public Health and Human Services.

Please support HB 653. Thank you, Representative Curdy, for carrying this bill.
