    Representatives,

Missoula County supports HJ 34, Interim study on passenger transportation, on the House floor this afternoon. As Montana’s second most populated county , Missoula County has a keen interest in not only examining new models for re-establishing passenger rail service to southern Montana, which we’ve been without for nearly 40 years, but also examining how our various modes of existing and emerging public transportation throughout the region can better serve residents and visitors alike. In a time when retrenchment is always possible, it’s critical to take proactive steps to retain existing transportation options throughout rural Montana, such as Amtrak’s Empire Builder along the Hi-Line. An interim committee of the Legislature is an ideal avenue to accomplish this goal and puts the legislative branch of Montana government in the driver’s seat of the conversation.

Please support HJ 34. Representatives Olsen, thank you for sponsoring this bill.
